Frederick Collie was born at Banff in 1911 the son of William Collie and Annie Collie. He was married to Agnes Anne "Nancy" (nee Guthrie) of Lochnabo Cottage, Blackhills, Lhanbryde near Elgin.

He enlisted in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve where he rose to the rank of Flight Sergeant. He was posted to 20 Operational Training Unit, based at RAF Lossiemouth.

On the 22nd of February 1945 Frederick Collie was returning home on a motor cycle when he met with an accident at Inchbroom from which he suffered severe injuries to his arms, legs as well as fracturing his skull. He was admitted to Dr Gray's Hospital in Elgin where he died at 7.25pm that evening.
