Ronald Thomson Stewart was born at Knockando in 1917 the only son of John Stewart, a builder and postmaster, and Margaret "Maggie" (nee Thomson) Stewart of the Post Office, Knockando.

He saw action in Italy and in France.

On the 23rd of October 1944 the 2nd Battalion Seaforth took part in Operation "Colin". This lasted until December and involved a seemingly endless series of actions to cross a number of canals. On the 26th of October they were fighting around the town of Vught where they suffered 30 casualties, mostly from shellfire.
