Arthur James Murison was born at Kimberley, Cape Colony in South Africa on the 13th of July 1897 the son of William Charles Norman Murison and Annie Eliza Bridget (nee Robinson) Murison later of “The Homestead”, Shanklin on the Isle of Wight.

He was educated at Hazelwood School until July 1911 where he was a member of the Choir. On leaving the school the magazine wrote the following of him: - "We much wish we could have turned "Jim" into an athlete, but that was not to be, although he always displayed the most lively interest in the doings of his fellows. A most valuable and enthusiastic member of the choir."

He went on to Repton School where he was in Cross House from September 1911 to July 1915.

He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 3/6th Battalion Manchester Regiment on the 28th of August 1915 but was dismissed from the service on the 29th of June 1916 following a court martial.

He re-enlisted at the Citadel at Plymouth as Gunner 99131 in the Royal Garrison Artillery on the 13th of July 1916. At a medical examination it was recorded that he was five feet nine inches tall. He was sent to No. 3 Depot for training and became a Signaller 1st Class. He served with the 239th Siege Battery from the 21st of October 1916 and was posted to the 153rd Siege Battery on the 24th of June 1917. He was demobilised on the 27th of January 1919 and on leaving the army he trained for two years in farming.

After the war he lived at Baker’s Farm House, Freshwater on the Isle of Wight.

He died at Christchurch Hospital, Christchurch in Hampshire.
