Gwendolyne Unsworth-Green was born at Richmond in Surrey on the 11th of January 1891 the daughter of Edward Unsworth-Green, a wine merchant, and Annie Louisa (nee Reid) Unsworth-Green of 112 Church Road Richmond. She was christened at Richmond on the 24th of February 1891.

She worked as a German teacher at Hazelwood School and left in July 1915 to work in munitions. On leaving the school the magazine wrote of her: - "...leaves us to take up war work - we believe in order to help in turning out munitions. During the time Miss Green has been at Hazelwood she has taught the small boys with great ability and perseverance, and the one or two older boys who have had the privilege of learning German from her can testify to the great progress they have made under her skilful guidance. Miss Green was a great favourite with the boys, and they, and we, wish her the best of luck in the future."

She was married to William Summerson, a schoolmaster, at St Matthias Church, Richmond on the 17th of April 1920. He later became a colliery director and they moved to Highway Etherley, Barnard Castle in County Durham.

After her husband's death she was re-married to Ian C.H.C. Grant in 1954.

She died at 28 Forest Road, Branksome Park in Dorset.
