Valentine Francis Goldie-Taubman was born at Algiers on the 16th of February 1875 the son of the Right Honourable Sir George Dashwood Goldie-Taubman PC, KCMG, a gentleman, and Matilda Catherine (nee Elliott) Goldie Taubman of 11 Queen's Gate Gardens, London SW, and of 7 Farquhar Terrace, Upper Norwood. He was christened at West Brompton on the 26th of June 1878.

He was educated at Hazelwood School and at Eton College where he was in F. H. Rawlins' House from January 1889 to July 1893. He went on to New College Oxford where he achieved a 4th Class degree in Law in 1897. On leaving university he became a barrister.

During the Great War he served as Secretary to the Admiralty Volunteer Committee. For his services he was awarded the Order of the British Empire (Civil Division) which was announced in the London Gazette of the 30th of March 1920.

He was married at Chelsea to Henrietta Frances (nee Curwen) on the 20th of July 1901. They had two daughters, Nancy, born on the 27th of April 1902 and Daphne, born on the 7th of May 1904. They lived at 40 Tregunter Road, Marylebone and later at 16 Springfield Place, Lansdowne in Bath.

He was the author of “Marjorie Stevens”, published by Heinemann in 1912. "The Happy Garret", published by E.P. Dutton & Co in 1918, and of "The Declension of Henry D'albiac", published in 1913. He also wrote “The Case of Sir Edward Talbot, published by E.P. Dutton in 1922.

He died at 20 Devonshire Place, Marylebone.
