He was born at Muswell Hill on the 24th of May 1915 the son of Charles Henry Cook, motor proprietor, and Alice (nee Janes) of 6 Northwood Road, Tankerton in Kent.

He was educated at the Junior King's School from September 1924 and at the King's School Canterbury from January 1929 to December 1930.

He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Army Service Corps on the 18th of April 1942 and was promoted to Lieutenant on the 18th of October 1942.

In May 1945 1801 (Folding Boat Equipment) Platoon, 105th Company, Royal Army Service Corps, under the command of Henry Cook, was engaged in clearing Bridge Dump 818 at Ferrera in Italy and moving the equipment to Bridge Dump 814 at Ravenna. He was taken ill at this time and died at 54 General Hospital at 7pm on the 13th of May. A forensic pathologist undertook a post mortem examination but was unable to ascertain the cause of death. At 11am the following morning the second in command of the unit went to Ferrera to complete the arrangements for the funeral. The funeral took place at 5pm in the presence of the commanding officer of 105th Company, the second in command, the whole of 1801 Platoon and representatives of the other platoons in the Company. He was replaced as 1801 Platoon Commander by Lieutenant G. Gillies.

He was mentioned in despatches on the 23rd of May 1946 for his services in the Mediterranean theatre.

He was married to Margaret Kathleen of Oxhey in Hertfordshire.
