Graham Just Boyd was born at 3 Albion Road, Sutton in Surrey on the 6th of November 1899 the elder son of Robert Just Boyd, a manufacturer of confectionary, and Norah Mary (nee Gane) Boyd of Spring Lodge, Heathfield in Sussex. He was christened at St Nicholas' Church, Sutton on the 14th of March 1900.

He was educated at Lancing College where he was in News House from May 1911 to September 1912 and in Fields House until April 1917. He gained his School Certificate on the 14th of August 1914.

On leaving school he enlisted into the army at Whitehall giving an address in Kensington and was sent for training at the Cambridge Officer Training Corps.

He died of pneumonia at the Military Hospital, Sheerness. His body was cremated at Golders Green Crematorium and the ashes were interred in his maternal grandfather's grave.
