fourth son of Edward Cutbill, a member of the London Stock Exchange, and Louisa (nee Sillam) Cutbill of 13, Sylvan Hill, Norwood in Surrey.

He was educated at Lancing College where he was in Seconds House from April 1897 to December 1900. He was a member of the 2nd Football XI in 1900 and 1901. He emigrated to Canada in 1904.

He was married at All Saints Church, Hamilton, Ontario on the 28th of July 1906 to Violet Reid (nee Clark); they had a son, Edward William, born on the 12th of December 1912, and they lived at Hamilton where he worked as a farmer and later as a manager for the Imperial Bank of Canada.

In early 1916, he contracted typhoid fever and died eleven weeks later from an acute dilation of the heart at 108, Barker Street, Niagara Falls, Ontario in Canada.

He is commemorated on the Imperial Bank of Canada roll of honour.

His death is not recognised by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
