Edward Oliphant Murray was born at Ryde, Isle of Wight on the 22nd of October 1871 the second son of Montolieu Fox Oliphant Murray, 1st Viscount Elibank, and Blanche Alice (nee Scott) Murray of 29, North Audley Street, London. He was christened at Holy Trinity Church, Ryde on the 23rd of November 1871. He was educated at Lancing College where he was in Heads House from May 1884 to December 1888. He went on to the Royal Military College Sandhurst from where he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 79th Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders on the 27th of January 1892. He was promoted to Lieutenant on the 14th of June 1893 and to Captain in May 1898. He was married at St Mark |
