Charles John Wix was born at Littlebury, Essex on the 18th of November 1840 the eldest son of the Reverend Joseph Wix MA, Vicar of Littlebury, and Hannah (nee Gibson) Wix of the Vicarage, Littlebury. He was christened at Holy Trinity Church, Littlebury on the 20th of December 1840. He was educated at Marlborough College where he was in Cross Arrows from August 1855 to December 1856 and at Lancing College where he was in Seconds House from February 1857 to March 1858. He was a member of the Cricket XI in 1857. He was commissioned as an Ensign, by purchase, in the 11th Regiment of Foot (Devonshire Regiment) on the 18th of December 1860. He was killed by the accidental discharge of his gun at Littlebury. His funeral took place on the 31st of December 1891. |
