John Wilson was born on the 9th of April 1834. He was educated at Lancing College from August 1848 to April 1852 where he became a Scholar in 1850. He was appointed as a Prefect. On leaving school he studied medicine and was elected as a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1855. He was commissioned as a Surgeon in the Indian Medical Service on the 7th of May 1856 and was attached to the 13th Regiment of Bengal Lancers. He saw action during the Indian Mutiny of 1857 to 1858 and during the pursuit of the Indian rebel leader Tantia Tope in 1859. He was the father of John Henry Wilson OL (School House 1875 to 1879). He died at Rawalpindi |
