Captain William Knightley FALCON

William Knightley Falcon was born at Mymensingh, Bengal in India on the 12th of April 1865 the second son of Anthony Benn Falcon, a Post Master in the Bengal Civil Service, and Selina Sophia (nee Worgan) Falcon of Mymensingh in the East Indies. He was christened at Dacca, Bengal on the 26th of November 1865.

He was educated at Lancing College where he was in Seconds House from September 1876 to July 1884. He was appointed as a Prefect in 1882, was a member of the Football XI from 1881 to 1884 and was Victor Ludorum of Sports in 1882. He was a member of the Cricket XI from 1881 to 1884.

He matriculated for Pembroke College, Oxford on the 27th of October 1884 and, on leaving, went on to the Royal Military College Sandhurst.

He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the West India Regiment on the 29th of January 1890 and was promoted to Lieutenant on the 25th of March 1891. He served as Adjutant of his Regiment from the 2nd of November 1895 to 1897 and was promoted to Captain in 1897. He was awarded the medal and clasp for his part in the West Africa Campaign of 1897-1898.

He died at Lagos Hinterland.
