| David Claude Harper was born at Doncaster, Yorkshire on the 6th of November 1926 the elder son of Colonel Claude William Harper, Royal Military Police, and Emily Jenkinson (nee Trickett) Harper of "Byways", Lindenthorpe Road, Broadstairs in Kent. He was educated at Lancing College where he was in Heads House from September 1940 and in Fields House from September 1941 to July 1944. He gained his school Certificate in July 1943. He won House Colours for Athletics. He served as a Sergeant in the Officer Training Corps achieving Certificate A in December 1942 and served as a Private in the Home Guard. On leaving school he enlisted in the army and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the King's Own Royal Regiment on the 2nd of December 1945. He was later promoted to Lieutenant and to Captain. He was killed in a climbing accident at Cobra Mountain, Kalyan in India and was buried on the 25th of October 1947. |
